720/ 730 diesel, fuel systems

I have an early 720d, my brother has a 730d. The 730 has a fuel bypass line from the pump cover back up to the fuel bowl, the 720 does not. From what I understand fuel pressure was also increased when the bypass line was added.

What was the thinking behind adding that bypass? What problem was that solving? I was just curious.

Thanks!

Sediment bowl housing had a standpipe for return fuel
(and bubbles) to be delivered high into the tank.

HIGH PRESSURE WAS TO ELIMINATE LOWER FUEL DELIEVERY TO NO.2 CYL . Sorry abt caps. We set pressure at 65 lbs.psi. well worth the change over .
