4020 Powershift Loader Plumbing

I have a early model 4020 diesel with powershift trans., hydraulic controls on dash. I am planning on connecting the pressure side of JD 148 loader to the rockshaft line in front of brake pedals using a tee connection. The question I have regarding the return flow to the Hydraulic Filter Cover is which one? The front is the same as the syncrho and the additional one (rear) is taller and per the service manual is for "filtering return oil from the various hydraulic circuits" which leads me to believe that the front filter is for the PS transmission and that it would be better to use the rear(taller PS specific) cover for return flow from the loader and leave the front one alone and dedicated to the PS trans.

You have it all correct. Use the filter that and circuit that is not used for the PS. There is an image around here somewhere that Tims and txjim have posted. It shows the use of a simple "T" in the rockshaft/scv return line.

Are you referring to this photo?

Because the powershift trans pump operates while engine is running one can return FEL valve oil to sump on a PS trans with no ill effects BTDT.
