AR engine in A ?

My neighbor would like to know if he can put a 1947 AR engine in an A JD tractor, without problems. Thanks, on his behalf.

You didn't post the birth date, or S.N. of the "A", so I don't know if even the GURUS can help you, but did you know you can view (or print) both parts catalogs (in .pdf format) at www.jdparts.com?

According to the quickie research I just did, the cylinder block will not bolt in. According to this sites' S/N list, the "47 AR falls into the 267,000 range, meaning it uses an A2324R block. The '47 A you list as S/N 589714 will use an A3462R block. The bolt pattern between the block and crankcase is different. It can be done (I've seen it) but you have to drill/tap new holes for it to work. The head bolt pattern is the same, but the AR head will be 1/4" thicker than the head that should be on the "A".

I have a block for an A (584,000-647,999) bored .125 over but never used, and a set of good used M&W pistons in central Missouri if you need them.
