Hello I would like to know what the speed would be on the auger that would put the fertilizer down to the Coulter say like on a John Deere 494 A corn planter I under stand faster the planting speed the faster the auger speed I want to use a 12 volt dc gear motor to run the auger I'm building up a 2 row plantercand don't want to use a ground driven wheel I don't have all the gears and stuff Thank you Adolph

Use a variable speed motor and you can taylor your application rate to precisely where you want it. Have it "phased" to the ground speed and you'll have a great system

I remember the early Deere No-till planter system had a hydraulic motor that ran the fertilize drive, it was "very" inconsistent...and I would expect the electric drive to be the same, any time you get away from the old fashion ground drive you loose dependable consistency..and Yes,, I realize I just made an Old Fashion statement....

That's OK Tim, you are too valuable to us to catch much grief. What you may like to know about is the entry of the stepper motor into the drive market. This one in essence counts it's own turns so a variable load won't prevent this one from changing it's rotation speed one whit like the old school motors sure would have. Further as you change ground speed so does the stepper in exact sync, provided the digital signal used to drive it is coming from a ground driven wheel. These are the motors driving the plasma cutter tables with very high precision just to close the loop on just how good, good can get. Home project cutter table units are on YouTube for real cheap as are the basics of electronics. If only they would do the same for GPS technology - perhaps they do and I haven't run across it yet. Would like to drive a straight line without having to spend $14,000.

Yes some of this stuff is getting better ,,that's for sure,,, and even an old rope trip plow will break the rope once and a while....
