2840 low power

I've got a 2840 with just under 7000 hours that has no low end power. I bought it last fall and even then it didn't seem to have the power it should. When the engine is cold I can open the throttle wide open and the engine gains no rpms. Even after the engine is warm if I'm picking up a bale with the loader and go to pull forward it sometimes just powers out and dies. Last week I was grinding up a bale of hay with it at pto speed and it all of a sudden started losing rpms and smoking (black) more than normal under load. I've blown out both air filters and have new ones ordered as well as a new fuel lift pump. The fuel filter is new and was bled correctly. Should I crack each injector or does this sound like a weak injector pump?? Any ideas??

Have you checked for anything loose inside the exhaust system or anywhere inside the intake system that could restrict flow?
Any floaters in the fuel tank that are restricting flow?
While it's not likely the problem, when was the last time the valve lash was set?
If the injection pump advance failed to operate, that would reduce power. Advancing initial timing at the pump is possible but it's not something everybody should try.

Check for good fuel flow from tank to inj pump. I also recommend checking inj pump timing & cyl head valve clearance. If it still has no power I'd try operating it without the muffler.

I think I found part of the problem, there's a couple injector lines that are leaking right at the bends. Time to order new lines! I thought I read somewhere that you could put 2955 injectors in a 2840 and it would clear up some of the smoke at start up.. is that true? Thanks everyone for your help!

So is there any advantage to using the 2955 injector ? I see the 2840 is on both part number lists. Or should I just start with the lines and see if that solves the problem first. Thanks buickanddeere for the info!!

As others have suggested. Ensure that every inch of the intake system from the snorkel to intake valves is clear. Ensure that every inch of the exhaust system from the rain cap to exhaust valves is clear. Set the valve lash. Ensure there are no intermittent floaters in the fuel tank to the injection pump.
Then tinker with the injectors. Given the age and hours they will be tired. New injectors are now low cost but..........have them pop pressure tested before installation.
Now it maybe the injection pump. Keep in mind weird stuff on occasion happens such as a flat cam shaft.
