Brought home a 29D

Brought home a 29D yesterday, now the learning curve starts. Coming from an H I have a little to learn here. Paraded in 1988 then parked, everything is loose. It looks like it did not have a hard life, everything is pretty tight on it other than the front steering. I think all that needs is a couple washers to shim out the shaft. Anyway, first thing is to see if I can get some life out of it. What plugs are recommended? Tried to test spark and got nothing, however when I watched some youtube videos I noticed them reaching under the hood toward the mag to turn something on? I need to look closer, is there a switch under there? Other than that, just need to start with the usuals...fluids, filter, etc. Also got a set of steel wheels for it. Would love to put it on steel and pull a plow around...trailering is becomes an issue at that point. How do you handle trailering steel wheeled tractors?

BTW - I was a *little* surprised when unloading to find D's have no brakes!?!?! :)

There is a lever on the backside of the mag to engage the impulse on the mag. Without setting that, you will crank all day and not start it. Remove the small round cover and check the points for oxidation. Probably need to run some fine sandpaper through them to clean them. If you need to work on the carb and it still has the cork float, go to Ebay and search for a Linkert Harley Davidson and Indian motorcyle float. Same float Roberts Carb sells at a much lower price.

I looked on the backside of the mag and saw a small "pin" sticking out. Would that be it? It did not really pretty in "switch". I looked quick this morning, I will need to look closer tonight. I did pull a piece of twine off of the "coupler" between the mag and governor...was that supposed to be holding something? Anyone have any photos of what the lever looks like?

Thank you!

I did see that and saw it was more of a "parking" brake rather than a driving brake. Possibly used when running a belt?

I looked at that closer, I see how it works. Thanks! Unfortunately it was turned on the whole time so spark is an issue. Guess that cover is coming off and points cleaned. Thanks!

Depends on how you have your present trailer ramps configured, but used conveyor belts wider than your rear wheels make for a safer way to load & unload.
You can also install the new hard rubber lugs diagonally once you remove the spade lugs on the rear wheels. These are popular at shows since you don't damage any turf, and you can also run in parades.
If it was me, I would stay with the rubber tires.

I have a 29 D also. Mine had Champion 31 plugs in it. I don't know of any one selling them any more. Auto Lite 3095 is suppose to replace the Champion 31, but for some reason I can't even get mine to start on the Auto lite 3095.

Msteinblock, I'd like to see that plow to, looks like Jointers on it? I'm putting a #52 back together right now with Jointers I found, so would enjoy seeing it. Email is open! Thanks
