Model A doesn't throttle up

Hello, I just recently completely rebuilt my 46 A and after adjusting the throttle linkage to preload the governor it doesn't really idle too much faster. When I go to full throttle it comes up a little and the governor pushes the throttle shut it where the idle screw just rests against the spring . is this normal or is there something else I might need to address. The tractor runs smooth and does not hunt at any lever position. Any help is appreciated

Open your throttle lever wide open, then adjust the linkage to be 1/2 hole short of going in the hole of the carb throttle. Good luck. Ron Mn

Sounds like a new throttle spring would help you out. Those old springs get weak and cant pull hard enough against the
governor weights. They are a bit spendy but are available from Deere.

I am assuming that you have unhooked the rod and actuated it by hand and the tractor operates at all speeds just fine. For the governor to work "too good" it is either like said below (weak spring) or adjustment or you have a clip/cottor pin binding at the throttle arm where rod goes it.

I order a throttle spring from steiners. I will give this a try and I will update when it comes in

If there's no load the carb is nearly CLOSED even at wide open throttle setting. High Rpm setting is only 975 rpm with no
load. When load is applied the governor will continue to open carb further until it's wide open. Rpm remains constant until
the load exceeds the power output of the engine.

I got my new spring and tried it out. All is working like it should. Thank you everyone for your help

I just put a new spring on my A also. What a difference, it's working like it should. Thanks for the advice.
