Take a look at the photos below of "Old John" Nancy's 48A.

To check the transmission fluid, remove the transmission fill plug located at the bottom right side of the transmission.

The fluid level should be at the bottom of the threads.

It takes approximately 7 gallons to fill the transmission.

To check the hydraulic fluid, open the oil level test cock located on the right side of the Powr-Trol.

If oil drips from the oil level test cock, then the oil level in the Powr-Trol is good.

If oil does not drip from the oil level test cock, then the oil level in the Powr-Trol is low.

To add oil to the Powr-Trol, remove the Powr-Trol filler cap.

It takes approximately 41/2 quarts to fill the transmission.

Hope this helps.

To check the trans and rear end, from the back, look on the right side of the rock shaft housing. There will be a large square nut, remove that. There should be a pet cock on the right side of the rock shaft control box, can't help with the amount of oil.

The owner's manual recommends for temperature above 32oF and up use 140.

Below 32oF use 90 or dilute the transmission oil with No. 10-W.

We use 85W-140 in our tractors here on the farm in NE Texas.

Hope this helps.

Agree.

Did a copy and paste and did not change "[i:654c4848f0]transmission[/i:654c4848f0]" to "[i:654c4848f0]Powr-Trol[/i:654c4848f0]".

Just another senior moment.
