I have a '58 620 that i am working on. When I turn the switch to the 2nd to last notch the tractor shuts off. I am wondering if it is the switch or if I am not completing the circuit as I don't have the red rear light working either, I got the white light to work but not the red. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!
 
Could be a bad switch. May be able to take switch apart and clean the contacts. The red light should work when the switch
is turned all the way to the right. The red light may not be grounded good. Originally there was no separate ground wire to
the light. Check power to red light first. If no power I would guess the switch since engine stops running. If you have power
to the light check the bulb and for ground. Assuming you have original type light with the ign switch controlling the red light
and not a separate switch.
 
A couple things might be going on in the switch. The ignition side of the switch might be losing contact in that position or there is a dead short in the switch or the wiring. Could be a short in the wire going back to the red light, it's a red wire. A short might suck all power away from the ignition and be the cause of no red light and it might not necessarily smoke the wiring. Black wire is for the clear light. Disconnect the tail light wire at the switch and see what happens. I believe it's marked TL on the back of the switch.

I just put a new switch in my 50 this spring, same thing, except motor would keep running just no red light. That post for the light had no power, replaced switch, all works.
