1972 4000 gas cab or no cab

I recently bought a 72 4000 gas syncro and can't decide if I
should put the factory cab back or or not. It was originally a
factory cab but has been converted to open station. I see one
sold on Mecum for 27500 with a cab. Does the cab actually
add value on that tractor for a reason?? I don't mind the
factory cabs as I'm not going to take it to the field anyways but
not sure what I should do.

I would vote no cab or roll bar w/ canopy if you don't mind a little extra noise. The cab were fine at the time but compared to newer ones are way too noisy. When I buy tractors the cab hurts their value at least $1500 to me.

To me the cab makes it more unique. 4000s, a "low cost" tractor, with the factory cab would be very unusual.

Especially with the gas motor, I would think the 4000 with factory cab would be one rare bird.

I vote put it back on. It will go from rare to very rare in a hurry.

I think the answer to your question lies in knowing what you're planning to do with the 4000. You didn't say. Shed queen, show, parade and tractor ride machine, or working tractor? If it's to be a working tractor, your climate, need for protection from the heat and/or from the cold, are deciding factors too. You didn't say.

The 4000 at the mecum auction the guy was claiming that it could be the only 4000 gas with a factory cab. He had no proof to prove it but that is what the auctioneer was saying.

I didn't notice it was a gas, to bad it is not a powershift then I feel certain it is the only one with factory cab.I know where 6 of the 9 total are 3 in Sibley Ia and 3 in Luxenberg Ia.My info states 260+ gases made .I have had a few and was glad when someone wanted to buy them.Ernie has a 72 Diesel powershift HFWA with factory cab that has to be rare. The one at Mecums that [Could} be only one sold well because their are no cab records same as 3020/4020P.S. or HFWA or 3 scvs.Might be,could are two words that don't mean much to me.I had a fella tell me he had the first of a series as it has a #1 wrote on hood from an auction. If you have the complete cab and that's what you want I would see nothing wrong with putting it back on.The RollGard is worth $4/500 and door $100

Do you have ear plugs?
Using the tractor... Then NO!!
Just looking at it.... maybe OK.
