Just bought an 830 two cylinder pony start and got it running. i have an oil leak under the belly of the tractor where the steering shaft comes through the bottom that hooks to the pitment arm. removed it figuring i would find a seal but nothing. has anyone ever dealt with this or what kind of can of worms am i getting into?

Yep, you're looking at a complete disassembly of the P/S unit. The steering shaft has an o-ring (F3450R) and back-up ring (F1695R). The o-ring goes towards the oil side and the paper back-up ring goes away from the oil (thus the back-up part). Might as well put vane seals in at the same time while you're there. There used to be an overhaul kit, but those became NLA a while ago. It's not too bad a job, and when you get done, it'll steer like a new tractor! I would also suggest replacing or at least rotating the R20164 pins in the steering valve actuating sleeve. They get flat spots on them, and make it hard to center the valve. My 730DE needs new pins because it always steers to the left once it gets warm. It's my next project after we finish with Dad's 730LP shifter issues. Then the platform comes off the 830 to tighten the bolts between the transmission and rear axle. All were finger tight...
