1010 hand-primer pump

Noob here. I'm "restoring" a 1010 -- not a parade queen, just trying to plow snow off the lane.

It has a toasted hand-primer pump, and I'll have to finish destroying it just to get it off. Direct replacements are silly expensive.

I see lots of diesel hand-primer pumps for other applications. I'm thinking any kind of primer bulb with a check valve could work.

Has anyone fabbed-in an alternative, something like http://www.amazon.com/Mercedes-Diesel-Primer-upgraded-Button/dp/B0084NK42Y/ref=pd_sbs_auto_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0EK3RH833KZFC9M1ZQZW (I don't think this includes the check valve)?

Apologies, I tried Search again and found http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=crawlers&th=81662. Very useful. I'm waiting on a quote from Essex -- maybe replacing it right is still in the cards?

Are you talking about the diesel hand primer?

Yeah I know, but it sure starts hard in the winter without it.
Still waiting for the Essex quote. Or I'll fab something

Because the one other quote I got was $750; and I don't reckon I need it [i:45029ad20b]that[/i:45029ad20b] bad.

Well, I'm still waiting on a price from Essex.
But if that doesn't pan out ... hasn't anyone out there tried a work-around with a more-accessible hand pump?

I have not. I just tried to find something on them, but my google-fu apparently isn't up to it. I found a bunch of Roosa pumps, but no hand pumps. I'll keep trying, but do you happen to have a PN?
Thanks.

Edit: I'm trying to get some extra fuel to the cylinders for cold-weather starting, not to prime the actual FI pump.

I don't have a part number. I worked for an Oliver dealer and they used them and I think we have an IH in the shop right now from the 60's that has one.
Some of the part numbers for the seals have changed I do know that. J.

Thanks. I couldn't find anything like that on the web. Maybe I could search by application -- what model Oliver?

If you're seriously restoring a JD 1010 how could you consider utilizing an airplane part? I'd suggest to just install an electric fuel pump with a manual switch for cold weather starting aid.

Thanks. But I understand the original hand pump is right out of a Cessna. ;)

I've heard of electric pumps, but haven't found one. Do you have a link to one?

But KISS seems good to me. I don't mind pumping it a few times.

I don't want to fuss with tapping a fuel heater into the manifold. But I think the small Titan oil-pan heater might fit on the manifold.
