Early Model John Deere 720 Diesel Crankshaft end spacing

I bought an early model 720 diesel. Had been sitting under a tree for 40 years. It has an extreme amount of end play on the crank. About 1/4". I ordered the parts to reset the end play, but cannot get it to come anywhere near the recommended tolerances. I went ahead and decided to strip it down to get a look at the crank. the casting number on the crank is f3315r, which doesn't jive. I read an earlier post on this site made by a salvage operation. He had the same crank casting which doesn't correspond to the earlier model 720s. I am thinking that the f3315r is a later model crank that needs the thrust washer inside the left hand main. Mine does not have it. I was wondering if anyone out there could confirm that the f3315r crank is for a later model 720d that requires the thrust washer inside the left hand main. I didn't really want to spend any more money until I could verify that this crank isn't for an early model 720. If this crank is for a later model 720, i think i need to swap out my left hand main housing, oil slinger, oil slinger housing, and flywheel. I have already found that my idler and camshaft gears have been damaged as a result of the end play problem. any help is greatly appreciated.
