JD 25B 2-row Planter....need some help

Hey guys.....anyone know where I could find some new or used parts for a 25B planter with side dresser units? I'm not a JD guy (Farmall man) so I'm not sure what is still available new if anything. Good used parts are fine too. I just picked this planter up and would like to get it in good working order. It was barn stored and seems to move and function well.

A few questions.....are the swords worn out or are they supposed to look like that (short vertically)?

I would also like to look up a parts catalogue (or purchase one) online if available somewhere.

What are these units worth if in good working order?

Parts catalog # 677 is available online for free at JDparts.com. I think the runners(swords) on your planter are worn a lot. Part number AB13009 is NLA from JD

Anyone know where I might could find the runner swords? Also, look at the 2 pictures (pics 4 & 6) of the 2 fertilizer boxes on the left sides (from the rear). Where the shaft comes out on the left side (from the rear) one of them is loose and wobbly. The other looks & feels right. I can't see any parts in the parts catalogue to make this happen. It only shows a couple washers that go there and no bushings.

Thank you. I "googled" that part number and on the JD parts site it said it is "Usually available" and had a price of $21.00 each. Not too bad. I also looked the part number up for the runner sword and it also said "Usually available" and had a price of over $200.00 each. OUCH!!!!

Anyone know where I can find a couple of good used runner swords??

Your runners are worn out. Years ago if a farmer didn't want to spend money on new runners he could go to his local farm store and buy runner strips that were welded on the bottom of the worn runners. There might still be some available out there. New aftermarket runners may still be available as well but I never thought they were built very well. Instead of being formed they were a weldment that didn't flow dirt very well around themselves. You might even be able to make your own weld-on runner strips as they were only flat steel with a curve to them. They could be easily made. Mike

Hi, I think I have some new (and maybe used also) runners out in the shed. If you would check the part # (visible on 2 photos), I could check tomorrow? Let me know

Please check for me as I might be interested!

The part number is AB 13009

Sometimes if JD shows NLA or a really crazy high price I have them run the part number on the dealer locator. I have found many items this way and sometimes even cheaper as the dealer with them in stock may want rid of them or is still using the price he bought them at.

I highly doubt that is the case around here. I'm not aware of a JD Dealer around bham or tuscaloosa (where I'm at) that has been open for the last 20 years. They're all kind of "new" and have moved a few times. They mostly sell lawn and garden stuff with a few tractors. About to go check!

Just got back from the JD dealer and mine is the auger type so the parts you outlined aren't the right ones. I ended up ordering the right parts and got a flexible hose for that hopper. Parts total is around $82 for the 3 parts. I didn't get the runners becuase they are NLA and were over $200 each even if they were.

If anyone has a set of them (new or used) let me know! Maybe those parts will be here very soon and it'll be back in business!

I'm sorry but my crystal ball that would have showed me that your boxes had augers was DUSTY

I'm glad you located the parts you needed.

Your dealer can & should do a [nation wide] dealer search , for runner [planter shoe] AB13009 , my guess there's one out there some ware.. 'Parts-Depot' [NOS. parts] Says they have one AB13009 at WI. location.. There accessible though your dealer also...

RTR" In your second set of pics; Photos 1&2 are adjustable gauge shoes to fit around your runners , controlling planting depth ; Pic 5 is runner [shoe] for fert. att. to incorporate fert. at correct depth, rubber drop hose fits inside, not greatest to drop fert. on ground surface.. you should have 2 of them..

(quoted from post at 16:58:54 03/20/15) Sorry, my runners have different #s.
We had a planter like that 35 years ago, did not hurt to check.
For the costs involved, I would weld on a repair strip.

Thank you for your help. By a "repair strip" what do you mean? Some steel welded on (homemade), or can you actually purchase a repair strip?

Thanks!

You don't even need to leave the house. Get on the phone and start calling dealers until you get one smart enough to run the locator for you. Then they can give you the phone number of that place and you can call them and they can ship it if they have any left.
