john deere a air stack

we are rebuilding a john deere a and we ran into a
problem how do we attach the air stack to the cast
air cleaner it was held on by a hose clamp looking
at it at one time it might have been welded on but
the stack is steel and the air cleaner is cast how
do we hold it on thanks for any help its a 50 a

I braze the air stacks on mine. Have done eight and they all work great. Just be sure to get them lined up right or you will have trouble putting the hood on. I made a jig that fits between the muffler and the air stack that keeps it the right distance from the muffler. Put it on the tractor, get it lined up properly and tack it. Then you can take it off and do the job properly.

the 1944 A I am resurrecting, the air stack
was silver solder into the cast housing...
With alittle heat it came right out..

It would of been nice if JD made the A and B mufflers and air cleaners like they done on the G. It would of saved a lot of work and headaches over the years.

I know I have done a few of those in the past. But I can't for the life of me remember if I brazed it, soldered it or grabbed the mig welder ? I bet I used the mig welder if it at all stuck to the cast part. So handy for tacking !
I do remember bolting it on the tractor and trying to get it aligned with the muffler and trial fitting the hood.
