1020 Hydrolic problems

I've got a1020 with some Hydrolic issues. The lift won't raise unless you turn the steering wheel. As long as you hold it in place and don't move it will work fine but as soon as you turn the wheels it won't raise until you turn the steering wheel. It sounds like something leaking or bypassing in the column. I put new o rings in the housing and didn't change anything. Acts like the shaft isn't centering or going back to natural i guess . What on these is sopossed to center the valve when you let go of the steering wheel? It doesn't have the big spring at the top like the later models do. If anyone can help or tell me what takes the place of it and centers it back on these I would appreciate it..!!

My guess is you didn't get one or more of the 6 big o-rings in their correct lands or damaged an o-ring on re-assembly of the power steering valve assembly.

Does the column get warm after running it for a little while? If it does you have some o-rings still leaking.

One of the reasons this happens is the Pressure or standby oil pressure is blowing past the column O-rings exhausting the oil supply, when you turn the wheel it is trying to direct the oil pressure to the steering and not letting it by pass, at that point the stand by pressure gets back to a near normal and lets the hitch come up..These "cute' little tractors have a very unique design..the more you work on them the less you will like them...

What is sopossed to take the place of the spring on top that's on the others? Or where these the ones were they figured out that they needed one? Seems like the wheel wants to drift to the right a little while it's running also. Doesn't keep turning and turn the wheels much but does some.

Mine did exactly the same thing. Had to hold the steering wheel all the way over one way for the loader to raise. It was a spool in the power steering.
