Algae in diesel

Does algae (algee) grow in both bio diesel and regular diesel? I have heard both sides of this issue. Need your opinions.

Thanks

To my knowledge sludge can be found in both type diesels although bio-diesel might be worse.

Not sure where you got this from but it is partially false. There
IS a form of actual algae that grows in diesel fuel. Shaeffers
makes an excellent algaecide to kill it. It is extremely toxic to
humans & expensive but it works. Others make similar
products. The algae consume the fuel. Btw there are rare
algae in nature that actually produce diesel fuel pure enough
to burn in a modern engine unrefined.

For what it's worth, I have been told there is aerobic algae (needs oxygen) and anaerobic algae (grows in absence of oxygen). Diesel fuel algae would be the latter. Mike

I've looked into it and it absolutely does have a direct connection to diesel algae, down south where the real humidity is they regularly (yearly) pull their pickup tanks and take them for a clean out. The tank is mounted to a wobble table and strapped down, filled 1/2 full of ceramic balls and polishing compound and left to oscillate round and round for half a day. Then inverted, steam cleaned and racked in full sunlight with a half dozen others ready for pick up and a call made to the owner. It's a regular side business. Patrons just pull up to the rack and put one tank on the rack and pull their other done one until they get all their vehicles finally done for the year.

So if you use an additive that's good at getting rid of water, you can save yourself some hassle. First clue you got them is black slime on your pre-screens and fuel filters after that. If it isn't black slime you have other issues. A bore scope can be used to view their colonies as they set up shop on the side of the fuel tank. Bromine can be used to kill them, but they will just come back if you don't find the source of water getting into your fuel and stop that first.

Notes made to self on subject after many hours of webbing:

Racor Or Biobor etc - biocide used only when needed
technol 403 - tank cleaner used often for water and crud removal

Not cheap this stuff.
