sediment bowl leaks 720 diesel

Set the bowl in place without the gasket and see if it sits flat. A lot of times the base gets warped and the gasket isn't thick enough to seal the gap.

The body is probably warped, because somebody's answer to the leak was tighter with plires instead of a new gasket.

Had an old mechanic tell me to coat the gasket with dish washing liquid . Seems to work on problem bowls.

I used to be one of those violators who used a pliers on the nut if the gasket wouldn't seal. I wasn't taking the time to examine the situation and just tried to crank it up there.

If the gasket surface is flat and you are still having problems try giving the glass bowl a little back and forth twist when you crank it up with the nut (fingers only, of course). Doesn't take much, maybe 1/8" of twist at the most. It seems to help seat the gasket. Sometimes I will tighten until I can't twist the bowl anymore, back it off, give a couple more SMALL twists and re-tighten.

If the bowl seats better without the screen the screen might be thicker than the recess in the glass and holding the bowl away from the gasket or it's a little too large in diameter for the bowl. 80 grit sandpaper is your friend if the screen is the problem. You either have to make the screen thinner or smaller in diameter, or both.
