How much is too much to stick into a 6030? for 11,000. engine was junk, so 9,000 for new engine installed.,1000 for misc and new clutch when apart. Tranny probs, so 4000 more there. 1500-2000 more for minor repairs and me painting it myself. what are everyones opinions?

You paid to much for it to begin with. 11 grand should of got you a reasonably straight 6030. If you had bought it in North Dakota you probably could go got it for 3 or 4 thousand at a sale. Big horse power tractors can be a money pit. They get used hard.

Hi
I was thinking your out to lunch on that price, there is a 5020 round here for $18.000 with $10.000 in parts on it. with a loader massive dual tires and a mf1135 cab on. They can't sell it!.
So for fun I went and searched for sale prices with google. I got some real nice looking 6030's came up at around $24.000 to high end $30.000 canadian plus. These tractors were in the U.S.A
some of them must be real special and a good reason for even thinking of those prices for them. -Wondering if it depends on tractor year cab/ options and condition. Kinda like the last year side console 4020's in the last few years.

well, here's the story: I kinda got burned on it. Bought it from a jockey in Canada, a Patrick Mossett. He told me it had a tick in engine-said it could be a bad injector, loose tappet, or maybe a loose rod bolt. Tractor was delivered to Wi. for 11,000. No batteries, fuel, or oil in it. Put in fresh oil, 10 gals of fuel, and battery. Wouldnt start, so we pulled it a short distance and with a lil ether(it was cold out) it started tight up. Idled fine, no tick at all, but had a good amt of blow by. Ran for 5 mins then quit. Tried to pull again but engine was locked up tight. Called Mr. Mossett and he said I should have torn engine apart "first" to see what was wrong. How do you know where or what to look for if you don't have a clue??? He didn't care, he was a jockey. I see his point on that side. Either way, I am now into this beast for 25-27 grand but it will be a very nice, near new tractor. Where else can you buy that kind of H.P. for 27,000.00 is my thinking. I dont want to be making pmts for a long time or lease one-I can't come out on a lease program. Just thought I'd add that info.

Good ol Patrick eh? I think I remember that tractor when it was originally for sale. Then I remember him advertising it. That's about as dishonest as possible--to say someone should tear down an engine right when it shows up. It should have been advertised as 'bad engine'. That's a raw deal and shows what kind of person he is. This is another good example (like larry's last week of the pto that won't shut off) of the seller trying to assure someone that a problem is just something simple, when it's not. A 6030 with a busted trans and bad engine, is essentially a 3k-5k salvage roller. And hopefully park is not busted out of that trans either. If you wanted a better project, I have a 6030 with a running 619 and good trans that needs some love but would finish out nice. Bought it for one of my future projects, but in no hurry now as I have several others ahead of it.

The good thing is that 6030s are one of those tractors where the more you stick into it, the more you [i:c63f75e746]could[/i:c63f75e746] potentially get out of it. But the market has gotten a little soft of late and remember that parts are hard to find and expensive if you find them. It also depends on what your end goal is. Do you want just a nice runner that looks decent so you can use it, or are you going for pristine condition, where everything is new--so you can sell it for top dollar? If you're going for the latter then you should plan to put a solid 20K into it after you have it up and running. I think you are probably in a little deep at those numbers, unless it is a very late s/n or the hours are very low. I have had a total of 8 6030s over the years and restored 3 of them. I always seem to spend more than I projected beforehand but I always go all-in and do them right. I am not one to take the hood off and blow implement enamel on a tractor from 10 feet away like some do. When I do them, they are torn completely down, blasted, painted with $100/qt paint, clearcoated, reassembled, all new tires, gauges, bolts, etc, etc, etc. It takes me a week to prime and paint the chassis, and about 3 weeks to prime and paint all the take off parts like the rear cast centers, front rims, quick hitch, weights, 3pt arms, lines, steps, console, seat suspension, air breather, dash, etc etc. They are a big project and really wear you down physically--if you tear it all down and do it right. That also means you will need help, and that means more $ in labor as well (unless you find someone who wants to donate their time to your cause).

I had the 531 on my 77 6030 overhauled for $4600. If you want to go the 619 route, you should be able to get a rebuilt one for around 7K. The trans will be the real unknown.

If someone else is doing the work, your numbers are too low.

Are you up to all this?

I know someone who refers to his 1466 IH as his Magnum. "If I add up all I spent on it, I coulda bought a Magnum..."

It is no fun to be screwed like that. Best of luck to you.

I saw one of the nicest 6030s with new big rubber and a roll-guard w/canopy that sold at Mecums for $34K plus buyers fee. There might be some as nice but not many nicer. It was bought for reale and was resold.

Saw one sell last summer at a Polk sale that brought $64K. It was pretty nice, but I don't think it is as nice as mine. I had a guy casually offer me $50k for my 77 and that isn't nearly enough to get it away from me. I have over 10K worth of rubber on it. It is 86 serial numbers from the end, factory triple hydraulics and 4900 actual hours, all metal shields. So yes they can bring big numbers, but they have to be nice to deserve the price.

There's a 6030 in MY yard with spun main bearings that could be had for $11,000.00!!!!

Maybe even a few bucks less!

New Gen That one was one of the ones in the not many nicer category. The one I was refering to was hard to find fault with. I cant remember if it had the extra shields. It did have 30in tires and large fronts. It was shown on RFD-TV when it sold.Market is a little softer on most everything. There is no question you know what nice is as your collection looks really nice.It is much cheaper to buy them nice unless you can do it yourself.I saw the one advertised for $11K.Patrick has been getting some bad P.R.which really hurts business.Looks like he has some really nice tractors until you realize it is wanted to buy.Usually problems should be free.

Yes, I do. Won't get to it 'til later today, though.

Belongs to my renter. He was going to $$$$$ fix it, but is now considering selling it.

OP, I think that most people have gotten themselves into deals like this, but as Steve and Larry have said, if it's going to happen, a 6030 is probably the model to do it on.

You are joking right???????

Buy me all the 6030s you can find for 4 grand and I will give you double what you paid for them!

Here's a not-so-good photo I already have uploaded...

<img src = "http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u125/27Grainfield/Deere/Photo740_zps24beff74.jpg">

This is in north central ND.

Where are you... might be interested in the engine, if you decide to sell it.

Hi
Sorry you got burned I'm In Manitoba so know of a few of these Jockeys, as we will call them to keep the forum polite. I could tell you a good story about my experience of one I dealt with.
Guy was running a Chinese auction with tractors he didn't own. The pictures were kinda taken to his advantage. and his margin on profit was %100 or more if he could get away with it.
This guy still emails pictures once in a while.
I figured him out with help from here and a friend in another province. He called me to see if he was stepping on my toes bidding on a tractor close to me.
These guys need to learn we are a close community with the internet. I talked with the guy in Scotland on here over the 2 I bought from a jockey. That's how I got suspicious about Chinese auctions, I was high bidder over him by $200 more, and the tractors were over a $1000 more Than were I started in trying to deal on them !.
Regards Robert

I'm in the uk Bob. It would have to be loaded into a container as it is.
Does it have 3 pt? Any other bashed panels other than bonnet and front left side?

The more I hear about Mosset, the less likely I am to ever trust him enough to buy something....

It's hard to tell when to stop on a tractor. I ended up WAY too deep into a 4010. The final straw was rear end problems. If you're doing all your work yourself, you can sure go a lot deeper. You can also go alot deeper if you're building one to use, not to resell. Even if you've got too much into it, the pain lessens every hour of every year of use.

I just wonder if this was the tractor in question. Ad says it runs great so I am not sure. I remember seeing this one f/s recently.

Sorry to hear you got took on your 6030. Seems to be a little bit of that going around lately.
So your into a 6030 for 27,000. Your gonna keep it and use it, and now you'll know its done right.
Now post some pics when you get it painted! LOL

Thanks for the pics Bob. We've been offered one with a knackered engine for, with perfect tin for $11k - yours would have to be quite a bit cheaper tbh.
