Is on the resistor I believe mine is located in my key switch how do I do away wit that resistor that's on switch I no I take one wire with the the new set to the - side of new coil do I take the other wire to the + side of coil iam a little confused on that resistor in the switch do I need to do away with it I don't want to mess up new system If it helps the tractor I 1965 Jhon Deere 1010 powering RU I did not see any other resistor on tractor except on on key switch Thanks for all the help

First off don't take advise on the installation from posters. I for one have installed several of these units "but" you want to use the "specific" instructions with your unit. On the one I installed the instructions called for direc 12v power to the circuit so there for I wired on the 12 volt side of the resistor and disconnected the jump circuit. the Unit called for s straight 12 volts to the coil. You have to be caution in installing the donut over the lobes on the distributor shaft. I've only had outstanding success with electronic and I believe you will also....

FIRST read my John T's answer below:

If your new coil is rated for 12 volts???????? with NO external ballast resistor required, DO NOT use the switch ballast!!!! YES DO AWAY WITH IT

I trust the new switch matches your tractor polarity or else you can fry it.....

If you're at NEG Ground, power from the ignition switch goes to the coils + terminal.

If you're at POS Ground, power from switch goes to coils - terminal.

WIRING: Look at the new switches wiring diagram (NOT what anyone here including me says), many have one wire to the power from switch (say on coils input terminal) and the other to the coils output terminal as that's the wire that gives the switch its ground so coil current is conducting to ground but then its interrupted to fire the coil at a pistons TDC.

Again the switch has to match your ground,,,,,,,,,"some" elec swithes have two wires to the coil, one to + other to -, BUT LOOK AT THE INSTRUCTIONS NOT WHAT WE SAY!!!!!!!
