1940 B Governor rebuild issues

E Needs

Hopefully some of you guys have been down this road before, I need a new brass sleeve that goes on the governor shaft. The ones I have found on the Internet are way to expensive! Anybody have a source for these? Thanks! I think the part number is AB 294R or AB 4234 R

I don't happen to know the exact dimensions of the sleeve but you could go to tractor supply or a hardware store and look through all their brass bushing drawers. I did this for my clutch handle bushing but I had to alter the OD on my lathe.

Other possibility is to get the bushing from McMaster Carr along with a brass washer to be brazed to one end for the weights' feet to push against. And will need a machined step for the torrington bearing to seat against as well.

E needs, so how much was too much? I couldn't find anything except complete shafts on Fleabyte for $80 range before they became acceptable quality for me. A search there for john deere b governor does it. If you are paying yourself a decent wage, $80 becomes chump change in the long run. It IS a lot for just a bushing. If it helps at all, it's not really just a simple brass bushing?

The 39 and 40 B had a little bit different type of brass sleeve in the governor, and they are out there, but the ones I located were in the $200 range. I know their hard to come by in new condition, but their made of brass and not gold! I could possibly machine one at work and that may be the route I take. Thanks for the input guys!
