Florida Fly Wheelers - John Deere Show

First, let me clarify that there was a few people, and they know who they are, that put on one heck-of-a-JOHN DEERE-show at this years 2015 Florida Fly Wheelers show grounds. See, the Florida Fly Wheelers is a large venue that is maintained by members of this same club. This property is offered to different clubs each year to display a feature manufacturer. This year John Deere was the feature manufacturer to be spot lighted. At this venue, the John Deere show was setup, promoted & organized by a few friends and their families and there is not enough room here to list all of them. They had over 300 entries to show up for display, and at no time did I hear anything negative. Everyone appeared to have a blast. Friends met old friends, friends made new friends. It was just a plain ole good show.

Looking back on it now, if my memory serves me correctly, the youngest tractor there was a 1030 VU European. Everything else that was produced domestically had a birthday prior to '72.

The weather put the southerners and snowbirds both on equal terms briefly, but nothing to fuss about.

To sum it up, I checked my trip meter once I got home and 902 miles round trip is what I had. I had a blast. If you hear of a show coming up close to you, go support them.

Again, my hats off to those that setup, organized, traveled to and supported this show.

Stay safe,

Hamilton

I agree, good show and almost without exception the restorations were top notch. For those of you who enjoy looking for bargains, the amount of vendors there, tractor and otherwise, is almost unfathomable.

On a side note, I got my first taste of a southern delicacy, boiled peanuts. Though some people tell me that Florida isn't part of the south, so I'm not sure they were authentic.

Hamilton,

Glad you enjoyed the show. That John Deere sign we talked about was traded for a shotgun, a Browning, I think. Maybe it was you that made the trade?

I enjoyed meeting you, even though it was cold out there.

Richard,

Sorry we didn't get together at the IH building, but I can understand if you were afraid of being spotted there - LOL.

I didn't get to the show grounds until about 10:30, and then we had to get our golf cart and figure out where everything was, so it would have been probably noon by the time I could have gotten there. Too bad I didn't run into you somewhere else.

It was a great show and the Green Parade was the best I have ever seen.

Richard you were just a bit too far south to get the "real" boiled peanuts  you need to be in South Georgia to find the originals.

They were also Cajun flavored which I would guess makes them even less authentic.

Hamilton,
I also want to express my appreciation to all who helped make this such an outstanding show. Your display of the John Deere 420 with the mounted one row cotton picker was truly one of a kind for many of us to see and with such a beautiful restoration it was a real head-turner. The numerous high-crops were really displayed in a very thoughtful way with the raised bed of twin rowed pepper plants for them to straddle. I know that their were many who went to a great effort and expense to put on this show for others enjoyment and I want them all to know that it is truly appreciated.
Tom

Tom,
You stated my exact thoughts about the show. I'm sorry that I missed taking a shot of Hamilton's cotton picker when the hopper was in the dumping position. And there were certainly a lot of outstanding Hi-Crops at the show.

Well, you'll just have to come back another time, although I doubt you'll ever see that many Deeres there again.

I didn't get around as much as I usually do, as I had a buddy with me and it was his first time there. We spent a lot of time at the tractor pull.

Best regards,

Stan

Great show. I didn't see a JD building . Years ago I saw the large Green building on the north end of the village full of Deere.

Earl

Earl,

You may have been blinded by the red Farmalls - The John Deere building is a little north of the IH buildings and across the street. Don't know why there was no activity there.

You're from Mahomet, right?

Stan

I didn't get to meet you I had a delay getting my golf cart. I got there to the IH building about 11 am. Yes, Mahomet,IL.

Earl, I do think we met. You had on something with a with a U of I on it and we chatted for a While. I think that must be how I know you're from Mahomet. I commented that we used to travel from Crawfordsville, Indiana to Iowa before I-74 existed.
