2630 JD load shaft seal

I think utility tractors such as the 2630 seals are easier to change than rowcrop tractors because there's no drawbar support that requires lowering. 1st thing after draining hyd oil is to put L/D control lever in "D". When you re-install draft arms add enough shims to remove any side to side motion of L/D shaft.

Not even close.
After removing arms from shaft you can just slide the shaft in far enough to replace the seal then slide the other way to replace the other. The plastic ring should be warmed a little before installing.
If shaft is worn it should be replaced.
Because of the nature of that setup the shafts do stretch some. You do need to take up play with washers.

What you state is correct but IMHO shaft needs to be removed if one desires to accurately determine shaft/bush wear.
