Re: 310 maintenance

What year is your 310? This is a backhoe loader,
correct? I have an early 3 cylinder 310 TLB but
don't recognize this part. Have you checked out
johndeereparts.com online parts diagrams?

I'll have to look at that, this is an early straight 310, I believe the dealer mentioned the original invoice was November of 1970, I am also told all straight 310s were the same over the years of production till they came up with the 310A so the exact year is irrelevant.

the part in question, well the visible part, is just a bolt hex head, I know that tranny screen looks the same from the outside but that is further back inline with the sideways cartridge filter that has to be removed to service it, this looks just like it but a bit further forward just behind the bell housing passenger side a bit higher up.

not sure if its just a plug or another screen, or who knows what, it appears as if it had some kind of gasket material sealing it to that case which I am not sure what exactly that case is, the first one behind the flywheel, on the drivers side the steering pitman arm comes out of that case, I hear its power steering and mine works, sometimes, should have taken a picture of that too.

haven't had a chance to get familiar with this TLB , I pretty much put it right to work and have been buttoning it up as I go, it looks like every time I fis a leak the next weak spot gives, not that I am complaining, I'll get through all of them eventually, just a lot of HYD fluid in between, and as luck would have it every time I buy a bucket a hose pops and spills half, hey its paid for!

I just figured I'd ask around before I put a wrench to it, I am pretty sure some fluid will come out when I pull it thou it is a bit higher than the tranny screen plug, it seems to leak more wen running thou, it always has, since I had it just that I fixed other larger leaks and this used to be minor, not no more, had it idling for a couple hours today, all raised up, changed tires, had a pint on the ground by the time I got done, a pretty decent drip.

if anything I need to figure out if that is a gasket I am seeing and order it before I mess with it, not to mention what am I undoing, could be a simple plug or it may have some nut on the other side that drops in the case and than I have to split it to put it back, who knows.

(quoted from post at 13:21:29 02/23/15) I think that plug drains the front of the transmission .Should have an aluminum washer on it.

its pretty high up on the side to be a drain, maybe at best an overflow,
