3020 gas and round baler

Will a 3020 gas handle an older 5x6 round baler? I usually do not make the windrows any bigger than I would with a small square baler.

The terrain will affect you more than the windrow size. If you get a full roll and try to go up an incline you'll run out of ponies.

A 5X6 roller will power out a good running 4020 going up hill with a near full roll.

If you are on good flat ground you can do it if it's a strong running 3020 but it's going to have it's wagon loaded to the max. The radiator is going to have to be clean and the engine making full rated power and the hay as dry as a popcorn fart. Better have some spare gas on hand if you plan to roll many acres. It's going to be gulping the liquid hydrocarbons.

Good answer! I usually use the 4020, but the pto clutch is slipping and just about out of adjustment, so I may have to use the 3020 in a pinch this year until I can split the 4020.

I run a 605H Vermeer with a 65hp deere diesel. The 3020 will do in a pinch, just roll them a bit smaller, say 4.5x5 or 5x5. Also, dryer hay will work better, less friction on the sides of the bale chamber. Bale in the heat of the day...

We started round baling with a John Deere 510 baler in 1979 pulling it with a 80 horse power 3020 gas. (yes it was hopped up a bit) It worked fine on flatter ground but was short when got into the real slopes. On todays Vermeer 605M I would not even think about trying anything under 100 horse and require 125 in the hills.
