4430 3 point lift problems

I have a 1974 model John Deere 4430 tractor in which I just
replaced the load control shaft, bushings and seals. At the same
time, I put a seal kit in both scv's. Before the work I did, 3 point
lift worked fine. After the work, no leaks and lift worked great.
Took it home and went to pick up a roll of hay and it would
barely clear the ground. Pulled out of the roll and it picks the
fork up fine. Adjusted the draft lever back and forth but it will
not pick a roll of hay up over a foot off the ground. Have I done
something wrong or do I need to adjust something? Thank you!

1st check to be sure big nut(parts key 44) is tight as they have been known to loosen affecting control valves. 2nd thing I'D recommend checking is hyd stand-by pressure by plugging a gauge in rear breakaway coupler. 2250 psi is factory setting but you can go as high as 2350. It's possible the rockshaft piston seal has failed which if stand-by pressure is good that would be the next thing I'd recommend checking. RS piston seal can be accessed by removing cyl cap that centerlink transport hook is attached to.

Thanks Tx Jim. I'll check it out. It there something that I could have missed when I inserted the new load cntl shaft? Does it go thru a yoke in the center that might have been in the wrong position? The draft lever was all of the way up in max when I pulled the old shaft. I've since read that it should have been moved to 0.

There have been situations where the follower (parts key 12) has been knocked loose. Did shaft slide back in easily? Yes L/D lever should be in minimum when shaft is R&R'd.

Thank you all for your help. I got on the ole girl this morning to put her in the shop, backed up to a roll of hay, and by some miracle it swept it right up off the ground. I guess I worried it into working! I'm not going to touch it as long as it's working and I thank you all very much for your input!

I have a late 4230 which I rolled onto its side mowing a road
ditch thankfully other than a damaged fender all is fine except
the 3 point hitch doesn't work whatsoever . Any thoughts what
I should do as I have it chained up now it's also an open
station 1977 model

My guess is the L/D cam inside the diff housing is not in the correct location on 3 pt mechanism. One would need to R&R rockshaft valve housing to correct problem

Hey Tx Jim. She's doing it again. Will only pick the roll up about a foot. However, I can dismount and go around to the Rockshaft valve and twist it further by hand and she picks it right up. The linkage to the rockshaft valve is adjusted all the way. Could the nut with the spring on it be loose? Any ideas? Thanks!

Yes the big nut could be loose. The cab mount donuts could be flattened out.

I think the bracket(parts key 22) that bolts to the top of RS housing that the RS control rod fits in can be loosened and moved forward. At least I know one can move that bracket on my 4255.
