Need Help - Adjustment of Throttle and Carb Linkages for 420

MS-420T

New User
I have a 1958 420T, and need a little guidance in adjusting the governor linkages because both the I&T and Deere service manuals were lost. I was able to find a partial 420 service manual online, but it seems to refer back to the 40 service manual for parts that are similar. In it, there was a picture of the governor linkages that shows the throttle-to-governor linkage should be two turns long, and the governor-to-carburetor linkage should be two turns short. Can anyone provide me with a procedure for setting these? I'm not sure Which linkage should be set first, and where I should set the throttle during adjustment? Thanks in advance.

Reviewed the John Deere Service Manual SM-2013 under the [b:654c4848f0]INSTALL AND ADJUST GOVERNOR LINKAGE[/b:654c4848f0] topic on page 70-5-6.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Now I won't have to buy a new service manual until its time to do a rebuild. I wish JD would just provide all their classic tractor manuals online for free to support the people that keep them up and running.

MS, you will have to rub the genie bottle for that. John Deere doesn't give anything away. They keep changing their web site around so you have a hard time getting into the parts section.
