4630 PS brake job?

Yep, my 4630 is at it again. Aside from needing a new IP, I've noticed that the RH brake has lost alot of it's grab and must be pushed much harder to lock the wheel then it's LH counterpart. I also get a little growl from it once in awhile. Pulled trans/hyd filters today, the front filter gave me some very small flakes that looked maybe like steel or bronze in color. Figure it's got to be the brake lining.

So, With tires that have 3 drums of chloride in them, cast centers, and a 300+ lb wheel weights, I think I'm going to let the local guys handle this one. They tell me they'll leave the wheels on, chain it to the mast of the forklift and pull the assembly off together. 2 hours per side.

Does this sound about right? What should I be looking for in parts? Anything extra I'm going to need since I have one brake that's already metal on metal?

Should I buy Deere stuff or is A&I ok? (heard Deere bought them out?).

Anything in the trans that should be looked at while it's open? Wouldn't be able to reach the PTO brake from there and freshen it up would I?

The old girl has been costing me a little lately, but for a $14,000 tractor that we bought to use for backup 5 years ago, it's held up remarkably well for the full time use it gets.

figured getting this brake job done before it turned into a trans rebuild would be a good plan. I'd like to milk this 14,000 hour trans out as far as I can. lol

Thanks All!

Yes JD owns the majority of A&I. I've never heard many bad reports about A&I parts. 2 hrs to R&R axles to renew brakes sounds very reasonable. No pto brake problem can't be corrected when axles are removed as tractor must be split.

We've never had issues with A&I wet clutch and brake parts. I did see a brake plate from another aftermarket that wouldn't slide over the pinion.

Correction Tx
Deere owns 100% of A&I now. Originally bought 49% with agreement to get balance in so many years which they did several years ago.
Unless they have changed I wouldn't use their disks if free. The ones I got had a rough surface like a file. I will only use Deere disks.
Have dealt with A$I for years and though they have high quality products they also have very poor quality stuff.
Have gotten some Deere parts that were A&I.

Deere parts are becoming a Merchandising business now days, they purchase a majority of their parts from other suppliers , and quality is not so important anymore..as well as service...they need to pay more attention to what they are doing,, I can see them rolling towards a tail spin...

Hate to spend your money but I would at least check the axle bearings before pulling the final drives off. If needed you could replace/adjust the bearings and do the brakes in one shot.

JD's strategy is simple. They want to be Caterpillar.

I'm afraid though that they are getting to big for their britches, and upsetting alot of customers. Myself included.
