Crank seal between crankcase and 1st reduction cover

I had the trans apart on my 36A last year. New bearings, seals and gears as needed. I distinctly remember no seal on the crankshaft but a channel underneath it with a hole leading back into the crankcase for the oil to travel. Recently I saw on a thread here that there was supposed to be a seal on the crank to prevent engine oil from getting into the transmission. Can anyone verify this? This tractor has been in my family since new and has probably been apart a few times but my grandpa and my dad are both gone so I cant ask. I also don't see a seal in the parts list but I could have missed it. Thanks.

Maybe the post you saw was for a tractor built after 1953 like the 50,60,70 ? These all have seals on the crankshaft.
The older ones A,B do not.
