ignition switch on 60

Mike Shelby rebuilt the carb on my '55 60....very clean & I'm sure well done job. Last night I painted it along with the intake elbow so it won't be long before I mount everything back on the tractor. Upon checking for spark, etc. after putting on new wires, points, condenser, rotor cap, rotor, coil, plugs, etc. all looked good in that respect but at one point I noticed sometimes the ignition switch on the dash that gives you power, front light, back light would be a little moody. I'd flip it one time....would have contact. Flip it off & on again....wouldn't have contact. Should I just replace the switch whether it be aftermarket or original.....or are the switch contacts cleanable?

Looks like you're pretty diligent about painting everything. Are you sure the lights and switch still have a good ground or might new paint have interfered?

I've unbent the small tabs on switches before, removed the back and cleaned the contacts with fine sandpaper and then reinstalled, rather than buying a cheap switch made from who knows where.

Yes replace it now before it drives you crazy latter, they get "Fuzzed" up on the inside.

I had the same problem on my 60 also. I replaced the switch with a aftermarket one. Around 40 dollars Kinda cheesey when I put it in. Wish I got oem from deere but nearly a hundred dollars.

Yes the after market ones are less than good, but still better than a bad old one...Deere prices are still spiraling higher,it's almost cheaper to visit a Jewellery shop...and remember Deere is becoming a Merchandiser,,so if we can find the correct sources we can bypass them when we can...
