4020 fuel gauge

I am in need of the fuel gauge for my 1970 4020. I order one at work (JD dealer) and was annoyed with what they subbed the part number too. A black faced ugly Dayton gauge that looked like something that just came off the boat from China. So my question is where do you guys who restore get your gauges from. I want something that is original looking with out modification. Thanks in advance.

I too struck out the first time I tried to find a fuel gauge solution for my 4020. This was over 10 years ago. Took a half a dozen trips to the dealer 30 miles away before I finally came up with something on my own that would work. Part of my problem was that my tractor was a pre-side console and had been converted to 12v. Long story short, I ended up using a new gauge AND sender from a 4430. Only problem I had was the new 4430 gauge was really deep and would no fit behind the circular hole in the dash due to interference behind the instrument panel. I forget what was in the way, but I remember it would fit where it should. Luckily my tractor was a powershift and had the trans temp gauge directly to the right of the fuel gauge. So I ended up just swapping positions with those two gauges. I have a pic if anyone is interested. Of course that would only work on pre-consoles. Nowadays aftermarket gauges are readily available. Those of which I can get no problem.

Recently somebody told me that the hundred series combines used the same gauges as 4020s. I looked up the part numbers and it seems there is a serial split, but the later 6600 etc use the same fuel gauge as the laster 4020s. Should be real easy to find one. Plus being in a combine it would have been sheltered all its life.

Widely available through aftermarket. Got one for my '69 4020 about 10 years ago... it looks very much like the original. It, too, was probably made in China but it is still working today. Search eb*y for "4020 fuel gauge". $40-50.
