Tractor sound to a tuned ear.

Hi fellows , i have a 55 JD MODEL 60. Starts at o or below any time it needs to be run at that TEMP. First or second PISTON every time . This is the Question. Upon a very cold start, the EXHAUST has a very distinct COLD CRISP SNAP. Very pronounced and noticeable. When temp Gage starts to show rise the sound will absoulty disappear. When snapping it does not sound like any heavy 2 cyl i ever heard but upon temp rise it will go to sounding like a normal 60-620. Tractor operates normally under both sounds . Any input possibly? Thanks

That BIG COLD crank is working in COLD THICK oil and it is working hard to run for a while..!!
Mine sounds odd when it first starts, until the head and exhaust warms..
Love the exhaust note of it running around 800 in the cold...!

A "cold crisp snap" is what they all sound like if you unhook one spark plug wire. The "heavy thump" you hear on a good running JD is actually two firing strokes only 180° apart. When you hear a plut-plut-plut it is actually 6 firings. If you un hook a plug wire it will "pop-pop-pop. I have never heard one , even at zero, do that. There is probably a contributing factor somewhere.
