A first reduction gear

Got my tractor running after it sat for quite a few years, after driving around I noticed what I thought was a bad bearing noise in the transmission took it apart and found a bearing that was bad replaced it and tried it again had the same noise, I took the reduction gear cover of and found the reduction gear was loose and the splines worn, is there anyone that fixes these splines? or would anyone know a salvage place in northern Montana? I live in southern alberta and there are no salvage places up here just metal crushers thanks for any and all help

If it's a tractor you plan to keep & use
there's a ton of A's around, buy a couple
used parts & be done with it....

You'll find the fixed price much higher than the used part price I fear. I fixed mine with shim stock. Quite the hassle but did get the slop all out of it finally. Not a lot places carrying shim stock these days so fleabyte or McMaster Carr can be a blessing sometimes. I don't recall what thickness I settled on but you need the gear standing proud of the splines in order for the nut to make it all tight. Might want to start with several wraps of aluminum foil to get an idea of just how thick of real shim stock you should be working with. Don't forget to put a seal on that inside bearing as that is what keeps your gear oil away from your engine oil.

Dawin Gingerich in Moundridge KS can fix you up. Doesn't cost that much to ship the shaft and gear. He is a good honest guy to deal with. His number is 620-386-0071.

thanks for the replies and yes that's what I was thinkin just getting a used gear A12r and the shaft its on, I found one in California for a reasonable price but shipping is gonna cost a lot that's why I was wondering if I could find a closer one, wish there were some tractor salvage places closer thanks again

If your tractor is hi/lo 6speed I think I can
come up the gear, but not the shaft at this time.
I'd sell it cheap.....
