Unstyled D Tire Tread

Getting ready to order tires for my 1926 D and wondering what
type of tire tread I should order that will look decent on the
tractor. I plan to use Firestone brand and the rims are 13-28
And not sure on the front rims. Thoughts or sugestions?
 
Don't use Firestone if you want them to look period.
You should use a 45 degree tread or if you can find them in your size the old Firestone tread where all the bars join at a 90 degree angle.
BKT I think is the name of a brand that are 45 degree and affordable.
 
firestone would be the best match by namesake, as it was the steel wheel era. the best pattern would be the diamond style thread. far as I am concerned no rubber tire looks right on a steel wheel tractor, and especially when the rear tire is oversized.
 
Is the diamond style what I described where all bars connect?
Other than that Firestone's 23 degree tread or long bar short bar would not be period or look right.
Their "diamond tread" is only available in a few sizes so off brand 45 degree might be the only choice.
 
I have been wrong before, & might be wrong again, but this is what I remember reading.
Around 1930/31 Harvey Firestone worked with Allis Chalmers to promote his "air tires" on tractors, so any rubber on a 26 model would not be "politically correct". But we all know that any improvement is acceptable, even encouraged.

The diamond tread that is mentioned was a Good Year product that came a few years later. Based on the truck tread, it had large pads, with approx 3/4 inch grooves instead of raised bars to make the diamond pattern. With more rubber on the road it gave longer tread life, but didn't pull well in the field.
IIRC, the Firestone "closed center" with the bars connected at 90 deg came out in late 30's, so would probably be closest to period correct.
