Red Green is not just a steering expert, he is also an electrician. Given the butt splices and wire nuts I would bet odds were not in your favor it was going to run every day. Coils were glued together with silicone and wedged with a 1x2 board.

Used to see many with the 4 car coils added. Then the aftermarket started selling the originals and also more and more put the original style back on because of the "correct police"
 
Mine was wired similar. Except the coils were neatly mounted on a homemade bracket. Starter was set up for 12volt too I found. Only problem was I had no spark, and no idea where to start to find it. I bought a reproduction distributor, and new wiring harness, and put her back to original. Works good now.
