Thank you to everyone who helped me with the timing of the magneto. I was able to get someone to come help me with the mag timing and we got it running, first time in 7+ years!

So now that it is running I am working on fixing up all the little leaks and things. One thing I noticed is there is no gasket that does between the exahust manifold and the elbow/muffler. am getting exahust out of the crack and have done my best to get the two surfaces to match up and create a seal. 1. Does it matter & 2. Anyone have a fix for this?

No gasket in there. With time it might rust shut ?
How about a little sealer made for exhausts or stove pipes ?
So what ended up being the problem and the fix for it ?

Basically the issue was my lack of experience with magnetos. I understood the theory but couldn't get the reality to work. Took about 30 minutes to get it timed spot on. He had it close on the first try mounting it then had to advance it 1 tooth on the gear to get thing sto work right. It all makes sense to me now that I have watched someone else install it.

I was thinking some stove sealant as well. The two flanges have a little bit of pitting and I am sure thats where my issue is. I however do not want to remove too much material trying to clean it up and make an uneven surface either.

If you have both pieces (mnfld & muffler) off, you could use some 80 or 100 grit sandpaper on a flat surface and work them flat. Idea ?
