Adding Remote Hyd to JD 970

Has anyone added a remote hyd. outlet and valve to a JD 970 Compact tractor?

What would be the easiest way? remote valve from Surplus Supply or other source and some fittings or would it be better to try to find parts from salvage yards?

I am not that familiar with these tractors so all help will be appreciated.

A spool valve other than OEM would probably be cheaper but not look as nice. One would need to insert valve in series in the hyd line that feeds the 3 pt hitch. Tractordata shows 970 hyd pump flow at 8.7 gpm.

Thanks for the response I looked in the Mother Deere parts book and the OEM valve is well north of $2000 . Since this is a working tractor and not a prom Queen I think a single or double spool open center 12 GPM valve will be good.

When you say to insert the valve in series in the 3pt hitch line I am assuming you mean to cut the line and put pump side in the "in port" and the 3pt hitch side in the "out port" correct?

Do you have a recommendation on what the pressure reief should be set on?

John Deere does not have a remote kit for this model. Probably you could run off loader remote coupling or add a power behind kit and place a valve off it. This would be an aftermarket valve as John Deere to my knowledge never made on for the power behind. I have a later model 4400 and they made kits for them. I too would like a kit for a 990 but rather not rig up some aftermarket. This would get tricky to attempt so I haven't considered.

JD did offer scv as an option for the 970.

Texas Jim, I understand and put the scv on the 990 very expensive to find in parts and kit no longer available. I thought the poster was referring to a rear remote. JD 4400 had the rear remote in single or dual but none was offered in the 990 series. One would just have to use the loader controls, there was an extension kit offered.

If I am looking at the drawing right Pipe Item #9 could be run to the input of a open center spool valve and the output of the valve run to pipe #12 does that look correct to you?

If this is correct what is Item #23 used for?

I have found a picture in the 970 tech manual that shows the SCV valve connection and was wondering if I am understanding them correctly.

One port is labeled: Pressure from Rockshaft.
I assume this would be plumed to the input port on my OC spool valve.

The next port is labeled: Return to Rockshaft.
This would be the out port on my valve.

There is also a port labeled : Return to Case.
I assume this is used as a drain of some type not to be needed in my application since my OC valve has no drain or return to sump port on it.

Do some OC valve have a dedicated port for drain of the work port ?
Is my thinking correct ?

Thanks for the help / JSBorn

I found the Kit to add Rear Aux Hydraulic to the 970 from Deere. It is a BM 18010 and comes with all the piping, fittings, and brackets to get the Hydraulics to the rear of the tractor all that is then left is to add an OC spool valve and I will be ready to go.

Kit even comes with correction (instruction) booklet and is priced at $350 which is a deal for all you get.

Thanks for everyone's help and input on this.
