I have a 1976 8430 originally imported into port Adelaide south Australia I'm the 3rd owner great ol girl. Can anyone tell me what was the original selling price from dealer to farmer in the United states and if possible Australia.

Never had anything to do with one but they are supposed to be a horse and reliable if taken care of. http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/8/87-john-deere-8430.html

There is a parts list online at the JD web site. There is even a place to check which parts are common with other JD tractors.

My Brother and I bought a new 8630 in 79 for $45,100 20.8X38's, the 8430's weren't much cheaper if I remember right..maybe $3,000 ??

they were dam near junk when the came out. Deere came up with a series of change over kits to fix all the problems dealer took them in and installed kits on a 8630 there was about $10,000.00 worth and i would to guess the flat rate for labor

I believe they were around 43,750 with PTO, 3 PT, and 20.8x38 tires. The first year of the 8440 with the same features was around 53,000.

Wow. We didn't pay much more then that for a new Versatile 950 which is 10 times the tractor any JD 30/40 series is. Probably why they dominated the 4x4 market and not JD. We gave $22,000 to a neighbor for a used 8440 with a couple thousand hrs on it back in the early 90s. Ran it for a few years and traded it off. It was a good thing too because the engine went out about a 100 hrs later at the dealership farm.

The reason I am in the know on it is because we bought our 8430 back in 1979. The discount Deere dealer was 52,500 on an 8440 and the take or leave it Deere dealer was at 55,000. We found a used 8430 with very low hours for 41,000 and was told what the last model year list price was. We priced an IH 3788 and the local IH dealer was at 60,000. I think the area discount IH dealer was at 56,000 but I am not 100 percent sure on that. Versatile was not that big here in the East at that time and dad was thinking about resale value on anything we bought.

Original price (USD): $113,000 (1982)

And your point is??? Obviously you have never bought a Versatile new. If you did you would know they were no were near that much. I just dug out our Versatile brochure we were using back then which has the quotes written in it. 850 was going to be $52,000, 900 was $55,000 and the 950 was $59,000 new price. We were trading in a MF 1800. Tractordata is full of errors and far from being a reliable source of info. Go check out the JD 8430 from the 70s. Shows it has a open center hydraulic system which everybody knows is false.

I suppose that if there are documented MSLP that differ from what is available, it makes a lot of sense to get it corrected so that everyone has correct information available. I do know that the keepers of the web sites are eager to have accurate data. In my experience there are differences between suggested list price and what the sales manager was willing to settle on, regardless of what color the product is.

FWIW...

http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/8/88-john-deere-8630.html (8630 - obviously a different model than the original poster's) shows:

Original price (USD): $53,000 (1978)

My gut reaction is that a 8430 was listed at somewhat less than this and that kinda fits in with other posters on this topic.

thanks all for the info. One thing I do know it's a way better tractor than the 4386 I drove as a kid.

Better than the 8630.
