John Deere 4630 is hard to go in to gear. It is a syscro shift. When u try to put it in gear it grinds sometimes an sometimes it will just go in gear no problems.

The clutch can only be adjusted when split,as the disc wear down adjustment gets out of wack,,, a 250psi pressure gauge can be installed into the clutch port on the side of the housing and you can make sure the valve is working properly, when the pedal is up should read around 165, when clear down 0,

You may have a problem that needs to be repaired, but I wanted to add that 4630 synchro's have always been hard shifters. We have an early 1973 that Dad bought new. Ever since it was new, he says that it has been hard to shift. When it is below operating temp, the only way to get it to go into gear without grinding is to put it into first gear, and then shift into whatever gear you want. Putting it into first gear apparently stops all of the gears from turning. After the tractor is up to operating temp, it shifts much better. Just thought you might like to know before you tear into it for nothing. Jeff
