4020 Coolant System

I have a 1972 4020 diesel that I needed to change
the block heater on. I'm not having any luck
getting the coolant to circulate so I can get it
filled back up. About 4 1/2 gallons drained out of
the block and another 1 or so when I pulled the
lower hose going into the radiator. I currently
only got 2 gallons put back in. I originally
wanted to flush it because I'm sure it hasn't been
changed for years but now just want to get it
protected to put it back out in the pole barn and
wait for warmer weather. I'm also thinking it
might be time to change the thermostats? Any
expert help would be appreciated.

They usually "Burp" themselves after they run for a bit with the cap off, and as for the thermostats,,it never hurts to change them but they last a long time..if you do change them be careful with the bolts they corrode tight, work them back and forth a bit as you break them loose, a twisted off bolt can make a simple job take all day....

I usually fill them as far as I can, let them sit overnight to burp if time allows, fill again, then run and top off.
