6410 vs 6615

Needing to upgrade our primary tillage tractor on a 400 acre research farm in eastern NC. Looking at a 6410 MFWD vs a 6615 MFWD. Both have comparable low hours. I know the 66 has the 6 cyl NA engine vs the 4 cyl Turbo in the 64. Which one will give me the most bang with the least headaches? I'm not a Deere guy. Need some insight from you green guys with experience on both tractors. THANKS much.

I would say 6410. I believe the 6615 had open center hydraulics vs. closed center on the 64. If the 6410 is equipped with a power-quad they are a very nice transmission, the 4.5L engines are strong.

According to JDparts.com the 6615 has a 414 cid(6.8L) turbocharged engine. From my experience as former JD dealer service manager diagnosing malfunctions of closed center hyd's I personally would pick open center hyd's over CC or CCPFC unless a large amount of hyd flow was required to perform the task at hand.
I have a friend that owns a 6715 that has been a good tractor.

I would say the 6410. The 15 series I have been around always seem to have air conditioner problems and leak in the top of the cab. Some could be fixed and only to start leaking again later. Like 88Diesel said, I think the hydrualics are different between the two. The 6410 being the better one. On the other hand I think the 6615 may be a little heavier tractor which would be helpful in tillage.

Does anyone on here know where the 6615 was made? Tractor Data does not show this.

By the way, Tractor Data shows Closed Center Hydraulics. Is this correct?

we have had a 6715 around for a while and its ok its not as fancy as the other is inside the cab but I liked it and it doesent give any trouble. If its going to be pulling tillage equipment I wouldnt buy the 4cyl not as heavy and the 6cyl has more lugging power. Now on the other had we have run the 6715 side by side with a 7400 and the 7400 out pulls it and is more comfortable. Im not a 4cyl fan they tend to run a lil hot here in tx we run 2950 4430 4440 7400 and a few others all 6cyl no engine trouble at all. I have a customer that runs 4 cly 6420 and 6410 and we work on them constantly injectors leak electronic issues cooling problems you name it
