pony swap 720

I bought another pony engine for my 720 blackdash as mine was only hitting on 2. Anyone have any tips or suggestions before I begin with the swap?

How well do you know the replacement engine ?
I'd make sure it ran on a test stand first and would maybe replace the hard to get at common items like the water pump seal ? valve cover gaskets and adjust the valves ?

I bought it from John Chapec in Mn., who has great ebay feedback. He pulled it from a tractor and assured me it ran good with very little smoke and turned the big engine over very well. thats all I know.

Any spark on the two cylinders that were not firing? Odds are a coil, points, a set of wires and spark plugs was all it needed.

You could make your own test stand to let her run before you put it on the tractor, otherwise you really do not know what you have. Always wondered why someone would want to remove a cranking engine that runs and performs so well. Really

Pull the steering shaft out, remove the hood, remove the oil pressure gauge line and tach cable. Will have to remove wiring harness from the dash as well, (Unhook the battery cables first!) Unbolt the shifter quadrant from the transmission shifter cover, and move it up and back ( you do not need to remove the shifter lever) Remove the 4 main bolts going down to the crankcase of main engine. Remove the 2 smaller bolts to the flywheel upper shield. remove the gas line from small tank in door to the carb, remove the choke linkage and run/start linkage. remove the exhaust pipe, upper pony water pipe and the lower one going into the block of main engine on the right side. (Drain coolant first!) Lift up the pony with an overhead hoist or cherry picker.

Don't mean to be negative, just want to save you some work. I too have bought a pony motor as a replacement engine from a guy that just wanted to get rid of some weight on his pulling tractor.

GPower has you covered , I chose to move the diesel fuel tank rather than go the shifter/dash direction as I had it empty to work on the sediment bowl. Just raised the pony a few inches on my 70D to work on pony transition . I use a shop lift on wheels.

LOL !!!
Neighbor had one that would start his 720 IIRC it only ran on 2 cyls as the rocker arm shaft was broken and some push rods were messed up.
