I have a JD 2240 that one day I went to start it started to shoot oil out from underneath the plate that covers shifters. When I removed the plate and cranked it over a few times oil is coming out of what looks like a small breather hole between the 2 shifters. There were no signs of anything leaking when I parked it before this occurred. Anybody have any ideas as to what might be causing this ... One guy I spoke to locally suggested replacing filters. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well the filter change won't help,, probably a cracked cover, the oil pressure regulating valve is in the cover, along with 165psi oil pressure.

Odds are there is a little dohickythingamajig that blew out of the port.

Tx Jim will be along soon with a page out of the parts catalog. There are drlled ports in the shift cover that have balls pressed into the outside ends during manufacturing. These balls will come out causing the leak. I have drilled and tapped them and installed a 1/8" pipe plug.
Hope THIS helps.

Thanks for the tip I tried replacing the o-rings first and it still leaked then I took your advise and drilled and tapped for a plug and screwed it it ... No more leak hopefully the other one doesn't come out but if it does at least I'm prepared. Thanks everyone for all the help!
