JD Model 520 A tractors - value? (both run)

Hi Guys,

I'm very new to this site (great site!).

I have 2 JD antique tractors, a Model A and Model 520, and am trying to find out their rough value. I'm considering selling both and people stop by often interested. (Both were used on our Cotton Farm in LA. Dad put bench seats on both years back for the occasional joy ride with more than 1 person.)

Model A was converted to LP gas very early on, and is an electric start battery version. Put a new head on it in the 80's, runs good, and tires hold air.
- Any idea of value for Model A?

Model 520 is all original minus the seat. Runs good, and tires hold air.
- Any idea of value for Model 520?

Appreciate any input.

thanks Guys.

Given the current demand for vintage tractors. the number of factory fresh appearing restored tractors now flooding market from collectors estates.
I would suggest keeping the tractors as a vintage family heirlooms keepsakes .

Rick,
Can you not read? "Model 520 is all original minus the seat. Runs good, and tires hold air"
What do you mean in the condition they look like there in??????????? The 520 is worth more than 1250

720standard. How much time and money will those tractors require and what is market price for the same models complete, intact and operational ?

LPs by their nature are worth less than gasoline tractors. No one wants to mess with the fuel. The A is a gasoline modified to run on LP. That makes it worth even less.

"condition they are in" is poor looking. The A doesn't have any kind of hood, flywheel cover or front grill. Maybe they're sitting in a shed somewhere on the property? They both look like they spent a lot of time on the southern sun. Most guys (not me) like shiny paint. These will both need tin work and paint - $1000 to $5000, depending on the quality of the work. The tires look decent, but it's hard to tell by pictures. Another $1000 for rubber if needed. Seems prices in the south are "cheap", which means they'll have to move somewhere else to get more money, and shipping gets really expensive fast.

Unfortunately, for most buyers, these tractors are for parts only. Rick probably isn't as far off as you think. Randal asked a question and got an honest answer on what Rick thought they were worth. If you think they're worth more, give your prices instead of attacking another's answer.

Evidently you haven't watched any restored 20 or 30 series JD LPG tractors sell on Mecum Gone Farming Auctions!!!!!!!

It needs side shields, steering wheel, and seat. I am confused on what else it will need. He said it was running. $300 for a seat and 20 minutes to put it on.

A dead one at polks brought $2100 and it did not run, missing side shields, tires flat, dented sheet metal but had a seat. NO 3pt on either.

Rick has said a 4020 was worth $1000 before. He has no clue.

I am more confused on why he said in the condition they look in?? The 520 runs!!!!

You are wrong when you say LPs bring less. A 520LP will bring more than a 520 gas in the same shape and a 530LP will bring more than a 530 gas in the same shape. Yes a 630 or 730 gas will bring more than lps but you can not throw all LPs in the same group.

Rare factory equipped LP's in factory fresh condition. Such as a Dubuque or Standard Chassis 20/30 series.
Neither of the displayed tractors are factory LP. Neither is a Standard Chassis.Neither is complete. Neither is factory fresh.
Some of those high priced tractors are buy backs.
Show us the going prices of rowcrop LP model 50,60,70,520,620,720 . We don't want to rain on your parade but the cost of restoration and the value after restoration are what they are.
Just store them and drive as vintage family heirloom keepsakes.
If that 520 has every piece of the factory three point hitch in good condition. The $$$ number will rise by approx $1000.

Look, advice is worth what you pay for it. I don't think either tractor is worth much money in it's present condition. If you want to got offer him $5000 for each of them it's your and his business. I think Rick is pretty close to what they'd bring at an auction.

Jim,

You're comparing apples to oranges here. These tractors do not come close to comparison to those tractors. You really think a plain jane non-factory LP conversion tractor compares to a low production factory LP?

These arent mine and you are incorrect in saying that the 520 LP is not factory.

Heres market price as of Sept 2014. I bid that tractor up to 1800

Check this link above. $2100 for worse condition. How is telling somebody half price of a WORSE tractor is reasonable???

Here is one for $27000 that is restored.

This is a row crop tractor with a $3000 front axle and $1500 rear wheels. You have a lot of space from a $1000 tractor to a $27000 tractor

You're right, I'm wrong. You'll ALWAYS outbid me on LPs at a sale. I don't care. I'd only take an LP if it was given to me. Make him an offer and take 'em home.

As I said, advice is worth what you pay for it - nothing. Until these tractors sell, we can argue until our fingers bleed. If he wants to know what they're worth, he'll need to put them on fleabay, polks, or mecum auction.

As far as your 520 I would want better pics but do yourself a favor and advertise it for $2,995.00 and see what happens . Don't be shocked if it sells for close to that . Actually seen them bring more in worse condition ! The " A " looks like a parts unit to me . Good luck Dave

Where did you get your $1000-$1250??????????? Did you just pull that out of somewhere? Sorry to confuse your wonderland with facts.

Alright if you say so but isn't there some sheet metal missing? A factory 520 would be worth taking a look at. Still this tractor "has a lot of experience"

Guys, sorry it took me so long to say "thank you". My job pulled me away from my personal PC.. sorry.

But i was pleased, and overwhelmed at the number of guys who jumped in to post.. so sincerely, "thank you"!

I'll pull both my tractors' serial numbers and research a bit more before taking an offer on either.
.. thanks again.
Randal
