Hi first time posting here, I have a black dash 820, and i am going to start working on it to restore it, however I cannot seem to figure out how to get the front hood off. I have worked on a 70 and a 620 and know how to get thoes off but there are no bottom bolts that i can see to hold the hood on, what holds it on other than the two bolts on top of the radiator? thanks!!

Do i have to take the front end support off or do i have to take the screen out before i take the hood off to separate the hood around the front of the frame with the hood up top? asked a couple of dealer techs that know the two cylinders and they didn't really know either

if you mean the grille , if I remember right there are two long bolts that go through the casting under the radiator that hold the grille on. Go to the john deere website and look at the 820 parts manual. Bill

Never had the front off and not sure what you are asking. This is how I get the HOOD off my beast by myself. Two guys working together works too. Will have to go to the barn and look at the front end.

Yes, two LONG bolts (6" or 7",IIRC) that run front and back in the bottom of the radiator area.

Remove them and the top two and the who "nose" comes off as an assembly.

If you think THAT'S fun, look at how the bottom radiator tank is fastened to the front casting of the tractor!

Just went out and looked, can not see a thing. Looked at my IT manual and it says nothing. Found this on the parts manual.

Take extra care not to break those long bolts, trust
me. They have probaly been there for a long, long
time and are extra tight. Paitence will pay off big
time.
I was as carefull as I could be and sheared both of
them off recessed into the lower tank. It was a real
pain getting those 50+ years old, rusted, sheared
off, bolts out. Especialy without acess to the other
side.
Good luck, and remember PBlaster, WD-40, and time are
your friend on those bolts.
