310 backhoe alternator

the front bearing failed, so I was looking for a new alternator, this site only lists a generic delco, any experieces matching an alternator to this backhoe, I disconnected a total of 4 wires from the Motorola alternator that was on the tractor.

of course there is the dealer too

It's a common Motorola alternator.

35 amp is a Motorola A12NJD453
55 amp is a Motorola A12NJD604

35 amp is the most common.

You can get a rebuilt for around $135 at NAPA.
Also a brand new one for $99 at several places,
like this.

mine is a 55 amp, according to the dealer it doesn't even belong on this tractor but rather a dozer, se501357 is what they gave me its a 51 amp, I'll check those sites

that was a thought, didn't know the bearing type, nor where to get one, plus I had put it off for some time and the coils got a bit scuffed up, it may still work thou.

I ordered this instead http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-3628-new-alternator-john-deere-industrial-backhoe-more.aspx it was cheap enough not to stress it, that box in the back looks different, I don't know what it is but mine has a 2 wire plug, I hope I can just swap them, the alternator itself looks very closely similar and while the parts numbers did not exactly match, I came across same pics and specs on other websites, while googleing the part number I got from a JD dealer.

apparently the one I took off matched a dozer, not a 310 according to the dealer, I'll find out in a couple days when it gets here weather I can work with it or not

I did end up ordering from dbelectrical.com Item Number: 7365, it just arrived and it is exactly as pictured, I have seen them on other sited for $135, as far as I can tell it is not much different than the one that I took off, minor esthetic differences, it came with a nice computer testing printout, I think it will do fine.

it did make some noise out of the box, the rotor had slid off the front bearing race deeper into the alternator case, to the point I couldn't install the key and the old pulley, I took it apart no noticeable scraping, the metal piece that looks like there are a couple limit switches built in, ( the one showcased by JD looked different than my old unit), one post is supposed to be insulated and it appeared the posts were too far apart for my liking, a little tweaking there, and last but not least the metal box ( I have no idea what it is ) as picture it had a 1 wire terminal, the one on my old one had 2, since I had a mechanical failure I replaced it with my old unit, it spins freely and easily and it is ready to install, I do not expect any issues, I hope this is not one of those things where you get what you paid for.
