4320 block heater help

I replaced or rather tried to replace the block heater on my
4320 today. Got the old one out and the new one has that little
brass bolt/toggle assembly. I can't seem to set it right in order
to get it in there. Ended up breaking the brass bolt. Any tricks
that I am missing to get it in there?

That brass bolt design is not much fun. I went to the hardware store, found a much stronger steel bolt, and used that. It's been fine for the last 10 years or so.

I have also seen qualified mechanics change them and either break the bolt or "not over tighten it" and have it pop out of the block at operating temperature!

Good luck. It isn't a fun job... especially because it looks very simple.

I've become a big fan of the external tank heater. They can be changed in a few minutes with minimal tools, mess and coolant loss.
