Does anyone know what the stock camshaft intake centerline is for a JD model 40? Would also like to know the rod length and the valve diameters. Thanks

The info is in the Field Service Bulletins and " The First Numbered Series by the late great JR Hobbs.
1-13/16 and 1-9/16. Valve spring pressure a modest 39-45 pounds.
I can't find the cam data without some time leafing through two rather thick binders of data from Duane Larson. His estate now has all the data on pdf.

If you want to soup up a 40. one of the better methods is to use the late 440 industrial gasser engine. Add some extra compression, custom ground cam and valve/port cleanup. Probably 40HP if built right.
Still isn't going to beat a souped up farmall Super H however.

Thanks for the valve sizes.

I was asked to design a camshaft grind by a person who is building a 40 for pulling. I have done many for the models B, A, and G. This would be my first 40. I have all the stock cam specs except for installed intake center line and the owner lives in another state and doesn't know how to use a degree wheel. I don't have access to a 40 or I would degree it myself.

Do you happen to know how long the connecting rods are?

Thanks again....

I would tell your buddy to slip a late 440 gasser engine into that 40. It will make more power than a souped 40.
The external_link on this site that has connections to several cam grinders . They will grind a cam to perk up an OilPull, lister petter, JD two cylinder or even a Kohler garden tractor engine.
