I've an 830 pony start that as never started like some other two cylinder diesels I've worked with. Most two cylinder diesels seem to start almost as soon as the throttle is moved into the fuel or run position. This tractor needs to have the throttle moved to at least half throttle and lately to full throttle with extended cranking time (2 -3 minutes).
As it cranks there is no white smoke, and when it does start there is just a whiff of black smoke. Once running it runs great, idles at 500 rpm with no problem, revs up with no problems. Shut it off and attempt to restart right away and it's a long crank time again.
My first thought was that I had air in the system. I've removed the covers and can find no evidence or leaks or fuel dilution in the oil. Fuel rack is set to '0' at stop, and '12.5' at full throttle.
I've good fuel and new filters, including the screen in the sediment bowl. I resealed the lift/transfer pump. There is 10 -12 psi at the filter pressure check point when cranking, and 24 - 26 when running.
I've come to the logical conclusion that the engine isn't getting fuel, but I can't figure out why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Merry Christmas to all,
Mark
