JD 720 Diesel Water Issues

Had some issues with my 720 Diesel. When to start it this morning and when I pulled the starting lever and the compression lever and water came shooting out the exaust. Then it stopped and locked up. I'm assuning there is water in the cylinders. What do you think caused this? Cracked head, head gasket??

If the De-Compression lever is kept pulled, it should not be locked..unless something else is wrong.

Head Gaskets can go to leaking on the 720/730 but I would check further for other paths for water (Coolant?) to enter the cylinders..

Is the Big engine's oil level normal..?
Tractor setting out (Water?)..

Keep asking and checking and let us know what you find..
Ron.

The tractor just started leaking anti freeze a couple days before. I was in the process of trying to figure out where it came from

Is it leaking any antifreeze Externally..?

There are many true 720/730 Diesel GURUs here who can tell you anything and just about everything about that Diesel..

Ask in several of these message forums, not just in the JD forum..

Ron.

Just hope you did not bend a rod by hydraulic locking the motor.
Is the antifreeze old and the head gasket corrode through? Engine put on a heavy load when cold and blow a head gasket? Did "Bubba" do an overhaul without using a torque wrench? Is the antifreeze weak then froze and split a casting?

Sorry GF, he is a VERY well versed Electrical man and maybe, just maybe getting a little senile at times...
B&D knows and knows plenty others who can help you, but he has his arse lifted a little high right now I guess...
Keep on asking, plenty "Pull" these, so ask in the Pulling page..

Ron.

Guess I MUST apologize to B&D....

I was GF's reply and thought it was a SNIDE remark leveled at my reply to you (GM)..

I admit, I did fire a little too early this time..sometimes it is hard to Soar with Eagles, when you sometimes deal with Turkeys...!!!
Sorry, now go on a Help the poor Lad...

Are you expecting somebody to provide a 100% diagnosis for free plus an exact parts and labour list from the info provided? It isn't going to happen.
Time for you to pull the cylinder head and look for a failed head gasket, cracks, warped mating surfaces or stretched head studs.
May as well have the injectors pop pressure tested and spray pattern tested when it's all handy.

Do I KNOW were the problem is.....no! However, when a similar situation happened with my JD 'R' I removed BOTH fuel injectors and COOLANT was running from one of the fuel injector bores. With the HEAD REMOVED it was quite obvious there was a crack between two valve seats.
Bob.......

Buickanddeere all I'm looking for is some suggestions of what
it could be. If I wanted a 100% diagnosis I would take it to
soneone. Instead I would like to work on it myself and learn
sonething as I'm a young guy new to the diesel's.

At least with a 730 head. Odds are rather slim of having a leak through the injector bore.
Odds are that in the past that a "Bubba" torqued down the head via by guess and by golly instead of using a toque wrench. Then operated the tractor with depleted corrosion inhibitor.
